Coach G’s Nutrition Corner: Build your Healthy Library
Build your Healthy Library
Following a recipe seems simple in theory. Gather the ingredients, prep, combine, cook, and enjoy. Simple, right? Not exactly, because the options for recipes are endless and often they do not fit into your healthy lifestyle. As a Precision Nutrition Coach, I have flipped through my fair share of cookbooks. When I came across Gourmet Nutrition, from Dr. John M. Berardi, Michael Williams, and Kristina Andrew, I knew that I found a great resource. This cookbook is aimed at individuals looking to improve their health and physical performance. Every recipe has the nutritional breakdown and an idea of where it could fit into your nutrition plan. If you are eating a meal before a big event, pick something higher carbohydrate that will help fuel your workout. Say you need a high protein meal to prep quickly, they have that too. To make things simple, the book comes with a pantry list, so you can have a game plan when doing the grocery shopping. If you eat less red meat, there are entire chapters on seafood and poultry. Do you need better breakfast or quick shake/smoothie ideas? Just flip to those chapters and take your pick. Now of course there are limits, you could still build a less than perfect day of meals using this book. Make sure you do your homework ahead of time and design the best meals for your goals. Everybody is special so do not forget to customize your plan. Get out there and start making better meals!
